About Me

I never imagined I’d walk through a minefield in Iraq, be locked-down during riots in Khartoum, respond to the aftermath of an earthquake in Pakistan, negotiate million-dollar contracts or the introduction of legislation, train people on compliance in the Congo or that I would conduct numerous disciplinaries, interview, manage, and fire so many people.

Working in challenging circumstances and stressful situations required the ability to communicate without alienating people, take decisive action while bringing others with you and maintaining a sense of calm, humour and inner strength so others could rely on me without sacrificing my well-being.

With 20+ years working in operations and finance with teams in Europe, Africa, Asia, in-person and remotely I know the importance of systems and processes but I also witnessed the damage done to people when we use these to box them in and dilute their uniqueness. With people, there is no single formula or input that will ever generate the same result but if you trust and give space so everyone can bring their best selves to work you will have fantastic working relationships, enjoy your work-life and achieve amazing results.

Win-Win-Win.

My Approach

I'm at my best when I’m by your side delving into a particular situation to figure out what's going on, what’s the best thing to do and what’s going to work.  I believe that different perspectives always reveal a better way and a better solution.  It makes sense to me to tailor approaches and solutions to each unique situation.  I’ll be happy to explore yours on an individual, team or organisational basis when we talk so we can work out what approach best suits.

If you put people first and are ready to go beyond imagining what is possible and take action then let’s get started.

My Background

A love of learning is one of my core values and I’ve completed courses in topics as diverse as Brain & Behaviour, Coaching, Effective Negotiation, Existentialism, Mental Health First Aid, Science of Well-Being and Social Impact Strategy.  From university, I have qualifications in Business Studies, Women’s Studies, Political Science and I hold a professional Accounting qualification.

My experience and business acumen stem from a wide variety of commercial and non-profit operational, project and financial roles.  A director at 33 I learnt that to have an impact required you to be brave, bold and to build strong working relationships.  It wasn’t enough to be technically excellent; putting people first was key.

I’m Irish. I’ve worked and lived around the world.  I’m now UK-based and sit on the board of an international non-profit organisation.
